Things Every Texan Should do This Fall

Catch a Football Game & Tailgate
The game is much more than a sport here – it’s a culture and is full of tradition. Every weekend this fall, from Thursday through Sunday, there are high school, college and professional football games taking place across the Lone Star State.
Get out there and enjoy it – the crowd, the excitement, the feeling of community. There’s nothing quite like it! While you’re at it, show up early and rock the tailgate!

Visit the State Fair!
The nearly month long event boasts everything from carnival rides to live music and the best eats and art shows around. The State Fair of Texas is the largest fair and stock show in the state, and runs for 24 days through late-September and early-October

Celebrate Oktober
Prost! Anyone who enjoys German food, drink and music has to make plans to attend one of these events. Many of the state’s best Oktoberfests take place in heavily German influenced areas like the Hill Country.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin patches are a great way to kick off the season. Load up the kids, head down to the pumpkin patch, and pick out the perfect one. And, be sure to get some pictures of the kiddos. Even if it doesn’t “feel” like fall yet, you can still capture the perfect fall family photo.

Take in the Fall Foliage
You’ll have to go pretty far east or west in Texas to get brilliant fall foliage, but that’s nothing when the next-closest venue involves a trip to Maine or Vermont.
Take a weekend drive and admire the fall foliage! Check out one of the four fantastic “color tours” in the Texas Hill Country. Or visit a State Park; they offer some of the best places to enjoy the season.

Get “Lost” in a Corn Maze
Try one of the 11 amazing corn mazes in Texas as recommended by MySanAntonio.com. All are great escapes that will make every fall fan rejoice.

Bake (And Eat!)
In Texas, we know how to cook – and we know how to enjoy our masterpieces. With fall, this may include adding pumpkin spice to everything in arms reach. Except tacos. We don’t mess with tacos.

Grab some Blue Bell and Try the Fall Flavors
Did we mention fall includes adding pumpkin spice to everything? Seasonal favorites have included Pumpkin Spice and this year’s limited edition flavor “Pink Camo ‘n’ Cream.”

Bring on the Chili
From cook-offs to a homemade pot of chili, this is one of the best parts of fall. On cold fall nights, our go-to meal is always a big ol’ bowl of Texas chili.

Relax around a Campfire
There’s not much that can beat sitting around a good campfire with friends and family swapping stories, making s’mores and watching the stars come out. Just be sure to take precautions before you light your fire. Fall can be a dangerous time for wild fires in the State. Check with your local fire department or area officials to make sure it’s okay.

Enjoy a Hayride
Hayrides are a nostalgic tradition that everyone in the family can enjoy. Feeling a little adventurous? Try a Haunted Hayride for a heart racing good time!

Nitsche Stories

All families have stories, and the Nitsche family is no different. Over time, we’ve collected a few stories from helping our clients through good times and bad.
